ImageWhen Vayu claim to have changed their sound, they are a bit more than serious! And, this one must have realized at the Erocktica Pink Floyd's Tribute on July 30 at Aura. Well, for one, they give more weightage to their OCs, and then, the vocals duties that are now shared by the swashbuckling guitarist Ravi Iyer and an acoustic female vocalist - Fey. The good ol' drummer Gopal Dutta and bassist Crosby are still around. And, someone who needs a special mention is Neil the awesome saxophonist player, who doubled up as the keyboardist as well... and can play as many as 18 different instruments! The gig started with the Floyd magic - 'Run like hell' and 'Coming back to life'. Even before Vayu took stage, the place was packed! 'Coming back to life' had all the audiences singling along rather loudly, enough to drown Fey's voice. And, this went on for all the Floyd tracks, especially 'Wish you were here', during which the audiences were at their loudest best. Ravi on the sequence from 'In the flesh' right up to 'Another brick in the wall 2' was superb.

All the Floyd covers were extended versions, and no one overshadowed the othe r in any of the tracks. Neil really shone in 'Shine on you crazy diamond', in which the vocals were replaced by his saxophone through out. And, Neil had practiced this song for just one day! One could, obviously, not tell that. This was the most ambient song of all. Among Floyd tracks were 'Mother', which was the only acoustic song sung by Ravi and Fey both. 'Hey you' was great too.

Apart from these, Vayu played their original tracks 'Save my world' (which was about Qasab), 'Fallen angels', 'Don't make me cry', 'My World', 'Rush hour', 'Sister', 'Seven Eleven', 'Fall Right' and 'Last goodbye'. And, like it's said, Vayu saved the best for last and said goodbye with 'Comfortably numb', again in which the crowd sang along.
